Helping smarter professional service firms grow

Our team

We believe that you should only pay for what you get: we therefore maintain low overheads by managing a small core team of employees supplemented by an associate team of experts and best friends.

Bernard Savage

Bernard Savage

Position: Managing Director
Email: bernard@tenandahalf.co.uk
Shoe size: 10½

With 19 years of professional sales and marketing experience, including in-house roles at Procter & Gamble, Shell and Eversheds. Bernard is the founding member and driving force behind size 10½ boots.

He is also one of those unusual people who enjoys hard graft and has an obsession for detail – which makes him a great person to have work for you. Bernard wears size 10½’s; but of course he would do.

Douglas McPherson

Douglas McPherson

Position: Director
Email: douglas@tenandahalf.co.uk
Shoe size: 11

With 18 years of professional sales and marketing experience; to include head of sales at Intellectual Property Publishing and Commercial Director for The Lloyd's Marine Intelligence Unit, Douglas is our new director. He brings a wealth of commercial business development and account management expertise and a broad knowledge of providing specialist solutions to the legal and insurance markets.

Outside work Douglas shares Bernard's love of football balanced with an unhealthy obsession with obscure soul music. Douglas wears size 11's but argues that makes him half an inch better!

Steven Odell

Steven Odell

Position: Business Development Manager
Email: steven@tenandahalf.co.uk
Shoe size: 9

Having worked for Doug in a former life, Steven jumped at the opportunity to join Tenandahalf as our first Business Development Manager in 2011. With 3 years sales experience and 5 years in accountancy, Steven's understanding of the accountancy profession married with his ability to find and close a deal made him an ideal signing for Tenandahalf. As well as looking at developing Tenandahalf's profile within the professional services Steven will also manage our unique lead generation service.

When Steven isn't spending his weekends sat in traffic on the M1 his interests include football and weekends away. He is also a lifelong Nottingham Forest supporter but unfortunately that life hasn't been long enough for him to remember when they were famous!

Claire McPherson

Position: Office Manager
Email: claire@tenandahalf.co.uk
Shoe size: 7

Claire has rejoined Tenandahalf as our new Office Manager where her hyper-organised approach, her incredible eye for detail and her, shall we say, somewhat 'careful' fiscal nature made her a shoe-in to look after the administrative side of the business.

John Stokes

John Stokes

Formerly Head of Regional Operations and Director of an AIM listed legal recruitment company, in 2003 he went on to establish the legal headhunters "Quest Executive Search" where he now designs and manages recruitment strategies and is engaged to headhunt the best "off market" talent for firms throughout the UK.

Away from the office, John can be found taking out the day's frustrations on the squash court, or extreme mountain biking (downhill only!).

What our clients say about us

I have an ever growing number of marketing consultants beating a path to my door but what I've found in Courtney Borthwick of Size 10½ Boots is a deep understanding of the fundamentals of legal BD and an uncanny ability to provide insightful advice and add value, every time.

Nick Symington, Business Development Director, Langleys Solicitors

Our experience with Size 10½ Boots has been a breath of fresh air and, speaking as someone who would have laughed heartily at the idea of BD training for barristers 3 years ago, I am a convert and looking forward to what we can achieve with our new found direction and approach.

Scott Baldwin, Head Clerk, St Mary's Chambers

Bernard provides refreshingly down-to-earth advice. He was great at demystifying and humanising a series of marketing concepts and giving us practical action plans we could each take away from our training session. The training was lively, productive and fun.
